  • Class Details: In a time when more and more actors are doing solo shows, this workshop is vital for any performer who doesn’t want to simply wait for the right role to come along. Flying Solo: Page to Stage is a 4-week course for actors, improvisers, writers and comedians who are eager to create original performance material based on their own stories, observations, experiences and/or original characters. Starting with idea-generating sessions and utilising writing and performance exercises in an environment that’s safe, fun and full of possibilities, we’ll find the truth in your stories and characters and take them from A-Z. Together, we'll discover effective ways to bring your stories to theatrical life by showing – not telling. We will work on themes, building suspense, basic comedy tools, editing, creating a “want” and an obstacle – and creating a strong beginning, middle and end. Participants will work on their pieces at home in between sessions, leading to a final 3-hour session to further refine the piece. The finished pieces will be performed in front of an invited audience at the conclusion of the course.
